Reflections from Jim Circo: Massachusetts Corrections in the 70’s- The Boone Era

Jim Circo began his career in the Department of Correction in the early '70s, rising through the ranks to become Superintendent of MCI-Shirley pre-release, NCCI Gardner, and Chief of Staff of the Department. During the Boone Administration, he was one of the first hires at the novel Reception Diagnostic Center, and spent eight days inside the blocks at MCI-Walpole during the March 1973 Correction Officers’ walk-out. Jim served as Assistant Secretary for Criminal Justice in the Executive Office of Human Services, and later as Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Corrections. During the Dukakis Administration, he served as Assistant Secretary for Criminal Justice in the Executive Office of Human Services. In 1987, he changed careers and has managed commercial real estate for several national firms as a General and Portfolio Manager, including Vice President at the World Trade Center Boston.
