about
The Correctional Reform Working Group is a diverse group of academics, practitioners, policy makers, and researchers, seeking to understand and share effective strategies for reform in the criminal justice system.
Our membership includes university faculty, former prison superintendents, a former commissioner of correction, a former Parole Board Chairman, attorneys, consultants, a former judge, a director of research, and former business leaders. With a shared goal of understanding the dynamics of success and failure in implementing positive change, we focus on examining the actions of leaders who have made significant improvements in policy and practice within the Massachusetts criminal justice system, often with national implications.
Our Mission
Our mission is to encourage progress towards a more just, equitable, and successful system by learning from leaders who have brought about positive transformations in the criminal justice and correctional system.
Looking ahead
Future projects will explore the work, impact, success and accomplishments of other Massachusetts leaders and innovators. These will include: Jerome Miller, Howard Gill, Frank Hall, John Augustus, Miriam Van Waters, and Dorothea Dix, among others. These leaders impacted the care of people living with mental illness, women, juveniles and the general correctional population. Their contribution often had an impact not only in Massachusetts but also at the national level.

Our Executive Committee members bring a wealth of experience in criminal justice, health, and advocacy. Committed to driving positive change, they provide strategic direction and oversight, ensuring the Correctional Reform Working Group's impactful journey toward a more just and equitable system.
